Case File 002: A Nurse, a “Mentor,” and a Cloned Trading App

Background

This case involved an ICU nurse from Manchester working night shifts who lost £12,400 to the platform operating at Bitgenyx.com – a platform our research team has since reviewed in detail (see our full review).

A trading “mentor” she met in an investment group walked her through installing what looked like a professional trading app – a pixel-perfect clone of a licensed broker’s platform.

Where It Turned

The app showed steady profits until she tried to withdraw £800 for a car repair. Suddenly the app needed “verification fees,” then “insurance,” then went silent.

The funds moved through debit card payments split across three weeks – a detail that shaped every recovery decision that followed.

How the Case Was Worked

Because she paid by debit card, we moved fast on chargeback rights. We documented the clone against the real licensed firm it impersonated – regulator register screenshots, domain records, the works – which turned a “he said, she said” dispute into a documented impersonation case.

The Outcome

Her card issuer reversed the majority of the payments under fraud protections. The clone site was reported to the impersonated firm’s legal team and taken down within weeks.

What This Case Teaches

Speed and documentation decide these cases. The earlier a victim acts – and the more complete the evidence file – the more options remain open. No legitimate recovery service can promise a result, but the difference between an organized case and a shoebox of screenshots is often the difference between partial recovery and none.
